RCMP Charge Man In $6 Million Fraud Investigation

A Southern Ontario man is accused of stealing over $6 million through investment fraud.

RCMP have charged the 72-year-old Toronto man in connection with a year-long investigation into what they call an elaborate scheme to defraud over 100 people.

They allege that victims were lured into investing money into fake or non-existent stock market trades, and then pushed to pay even more to try to get that money back.

In a statement, an RCMP spokesperson says this highlights the need for fraud victims to come forward.

They say that a lack of testimony and evidence can delay investigations and allow fraudsters to target more individuals without consequence.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court in London, Ontario in June. (File Photo)
