Rainbow Crosswalk Could Cost $35K

It could cost the city in the ballpark of $35,000 to create a rainbow crosswalk in the Bay and Algoma area.

Thunder Pride has requested the city consider creating one and will be speaking to City Council again Monday night.

Staff have said a four-leg crosswalk with special paint could cost around $35K and should last up to five years.

Thunder Pride is willing to provide up to half of the costs for either a two-legged or four-legged crosswalks.

The local pride organization is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2020 and they would like to see an installation by June 1st to be ready for their event.

According to the city council agenda, there are still several decisions that have to be made around the installation, such as location and crosswalk colours.

City staff are suggesting that Clean, Green and Beautiful work with Thunder Pride and other relevant community stakeholders to provide a recommendation to Council on the implementation details if a budget item is approved
