Quiet Forest Fire Season

An even mix of lightning and human caused fires in northwestern Ontario this summer.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is reporting 352-fires this season, with nearly 34,000 hectares of land burned.

Information Officer Jonathan Scott says the southern sectors of the region were active early on but things calmed down for most of the summer.

Scott adds nearly 1,100 Ontario fire rangers and support staff spent a combined total of almost 18,000 days out of province.
