Queens Headed To Toronto

A pair of Thunder Bay Queens squads will spend the weekend in Ontario’s capital.

The U-18 ‘AA’ and U-13 girls are set to take part in the 41st edition of the Toronto Leaside March Break Madness tournament.

“It gives us not only a chance to play some other great girls teams in the province, but it’s also (an opportunity) to spend some quality time (together as a team) and do things away from the rink that we wouldn’t necessarily get to do in Thunder Bay,” said U-13 Head Coach Lance Barenz.

Barenz added that his team is looking for another strong showing in Southern Ontario.

“We played well (at a tournament in Whitby), we went 4-0 in the round robin but came up in the short in the semi-final game. We’d like to get back (to that point) this weekend and see what we can do,” mentioned Barenz.

The U-13’s schedule includes match-ups with the Scarborough Sharks and North York Storm, who are among the top ten teams in Canada.

The U-18’s will open the tournament Friday with games against the Sudbury Lady Wolves and Barrie Sharks.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
