Putting A Spotlight On Suicide Prevention

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

A Thunder Bay man who dedicates his time to talking about suicide, Scott Chisholm, believes the way to help prevent the problem is to keep the discussion going.

He stresses if you are having such thoughts “to know that it’s important to reach out and ask for help.”

And that’s not all, you can also help someone you suspect may be having thoughts of taking their own life.

“The biggest thing we can do…is to know we can ask straight out ‘are you thinking about suicide?'” says Chisholm

He adds anyone in Thunder Bay who needs to discuss suicide with someone can call the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Crisis Response Services at 346-8282 or their toll free number 1-888-269-3100.

He says the Association also has a mobile crisis response team which will come to your home between 3 pm and 11 pm Monday thru Friday.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
