School Boards Decide To Delay School Return

Students in the Lakehead Public and Catholic School systems will have a staggered return to classes.

Public Board spokesperson A.J. Keene says they decided to take advantage of the government’s permission to have students return on different days.

“We need smaller numbers in schools to help teach our kids the new routines…to teach the children in smaller numbers,” explains Keene.

Classes were scheduled to have started on September 3rd, but now students from grades four til eight will begin school on the 8th while students in senior kindergarten to grade three will begin on September 9th.

High school students from grades nine and 11 will start classes on September 8th with grades 10 and 12 beginning on the 9th.

On September 10th all students will return to school.

Special needs students will begin classes on the 8th as well and to every day after that.

The only exception will be first-year kindergarten students who will have their appointments staggered on September 3rd and 4th.

The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board has also decided to begin the school year for students on Tuesday, September 8th.

They are opting for a student staggered entry to occur from September 8th to September 11th. This allows additional time to refine our plan and prepare further.
