You can add Thunder Pride to the growing number of organizations supporting the “Pride Lives Here” campaign by Fort Frances’ Borderland Pride.
The campaign encourages residents to display rainbow signs to promote visibility and inclusion of the 2SLGBTIQ+ people in Northwestern Ontario. It came about after Emo Township’s Council decided not to recognize June as Pride month or display the rainbow flag.
“Sadly, not all district leaders feel that LGBTQ2 people are worthy of care or concern, or understand the message of Pride,” Borderland Pride organizers say on the campaign’s Facebook page.
Thunder Pride has joined the campaign, and has partnered with Bay Village Coffee at the corner of Bay and Water Streets to offer Pride Lives Here signs for those wishing to show their support. They will be available on Sunday on a first come first serve basis through contactless pickup, and a donation is requested.
In June, you can share photos of you and your sign on social media by tagging @thunderpride.
“I thank Borderland Pride for bringing this great campaign forward and sharing it with Thunder Pride and Thunder Bay. I also want to say to all those troubled by the homophobic comments and actions taken by officials in Emo. We hear you, we see you, and we will continue to stand and fight with you to ensure this type of behaviour is eradicated from our world,” stated Jason Veltri, Chair of Thunder Pride Association.
