With reports out of southern Ontario that transport truck drivers are being treated poorly during the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t sitting well with our Premier.
Doug Ford says he has been in talks with the Ontario Truckers Association and has heard from them they are being denied access to washrooms and services as they haul goods from one end of our country to the other.
“You have to let the truckers when they stop for food and gas let them in, let them use the washroom because if it wasn’t for them you wouldn’t have any goods on your shelves. Have a heart and open up the washrooms. It’s not right, it’s not fair and they are doing their job and they should be able to make a pit stop,” Ford said.
Ontario Labour Minister Monte McNaughton tweeted photos of signs reading, “No Driver Washrooms at this Location” and “No drivers beyond this point. No washroom access.”
This is a disgrace. Drivers get goods to market. Let's show them some respect.
And businesses: ensure your washroom facilities are properly cleaned. Let’s all work together. pic.twitter.com/x1Xp3AjI5m

“Put it this way, imagine if the truckers said the same thing, that’s it, we are done! The economy would come to a screeching halt. I will be so disappointed if this type of behaviour continues, have a heart and let the truckers use your facilities,” Ford stressed.
