Port Busy In October

One of the city’s top economic drivers shows no signs of slowing down this year.

Officials with the Port of Thunder Bay indicate stronger coal and potash shipments during the month of October helped lead to a 10 percent increase in the amount of cargo shipped so far this year compared to last. They tell us a total of 6.9 million metric tonnes has come through the port during this shipping season.

Some of the increase they explain, is due to a strong month of October for shipments of coal and potash. Coal shipments were double what they were in October of last year and potash movement was triple what it was last year during the same month.
