Missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls will be remembered with a Christmas tree lighting at the Balmoral Street police station starting at 6:30 tonight.
Thunder Bay Police are placing red lights on four Christmas trees outside of their station. Organizers note they hope to make this an annual event.
Constable Sharlene Bourdeau tells us she came up with the Tree of Hope project after she learned that between 1,000 and 4,000 cases of missing and murdered women and girls remain unsolved.
The Tree of Hope Project is also raising money towards a $50,000 reward for a tip that leads to the conviction of someone in relation to any of the thousands of unsolved cases across Canada. Bourdeau feels the reward could help generate more tips.
