Thunder Bay Police are revealing more information about a major drug investigation that took place over three months.
From November of 2019 to February of 2020, police led what they have dubbed “Project Trapper.”
Their work has meant the arrest of 32 people including 15 from southern Ontario with suspected connections to gang activity.
Detective Inspector John Fennell says with many of these people once they are released from jail they will probably repeat the same offences again.
“Will they repeat, absolutely. Just in this project alone, I said there were 46 people arrested, some of those were twice, so 32 individual people arrested but 46 times,” Fennell said.
$270,000 worth of drugs has been taken off Thunder Bay’s streets through this major investigation. Money seized totals more than $131,000.
A total of 119 criminal code charges were laid.
Drugs seized during Project Trapper include:
- Cocaine 813 grams
- Crack 774 grams
- Fentanyl 34 grams
- Fentanyl Pills (fake Oxycodone) 1,322 (pills)
- Methamphetamine 3 grams
- Oxycodone 13 (pills)
- Illegal cigarettes 123 cartons
