Police Have New Rules To Follow

Thunder Bay Police Services Board is ready to follow the new provincial rules about street checks otherwise known as random stops by police.

Street checks sometimes known as carding is now prohibited.

Chief JP Levesque has in the past been very vocal about the random stops saying it’s not a problem here in Thunder Bay but notes they have to obey provincial legislation.

The province says all police forces must set clear and consistent rules for voluntary police public interactions, which includes establishing new training, data management and reporting of those incidents.
