City Police are taking a hands off approach to a reward offer from councillor at-large candidate Tamara Johnson.
The ad, posted last week in the Chronicle Journal, calls for a 1 thousand dollar reward in connection with the taunting of a young man that the ad says had racial overtones. Police spokesperson Chris Adams says they don’t want people to get the idea the police endorse the move and that they’re in a relationship which in fact they are not in.
He says police have specific guidelines about when a reward should be offered and they are given out on a very limited basis and usually in cooperation with Crime Stoppers.
For her part Johnson says she understands the objections the police might have with her reward offer but is concerned no arrests have been made in the case.
