High Murder Rate Disturbs Police Chief

The city’s police chief does not anticipate Thunder Bay’s murder rate to get much better too soon.

Sylvie Hauth tells us while the rate was the highest in Canada last year, there is nothing to indicate we will see an improvement.

She points to the fact we have already seen five murders this year and does not see anything which will change that next year.

The city police chief echoes what many local politicians are saying, that the city has many of the same issues other cities in the country do.

Meantime, Mayor Bill Mauro says the city still has work to do if it wants to put our high murder rate in the rearview mirror.

Mauro explains they are trying to do everything they can from the city level and looking to the province for support as well, but does not see that happening anytime soon.
