Your local pharmacists may soon to allowed to treat any minor ailment you might have.
Provincial Health Minister Christine Elliott says the idea is currently in the discussion stage but notes the end result would be convenience to the patient.
Elliott observes that “sometimes people aren’t able to get into to see their physician… during the course of the day, but they can go in on weekends or evenings to see the pharmacist if it’s a low grade issue.”
That could include providing flu vaccines to children under 5 years of age, taking care of minor skin rashes or pink eye.
Elliott says the government is currently in talks on the plan with the College of Pharmacists, which governs the profession, and there is no timeline for when it could become a reality.
