Petition Demands Apology From Emo Council

A change.org petition calls for an apology, training and a pride resolution to be passed by Emo Council.

Last week, Emo township council decided not to adopt a resolution to proclaim June as Pride month.

Emo town council adopted the resolution in full in 2018 but passed one last year that removed all LGBTQ2S -supportive language.

Co-chair of Borderland Pride Doug Judson called council’s decision distressing.

Borderland Pride has since launched the petition asking council to make a public, unreserved apology to their citizens for the homophobic comments and actions taken during their meeting on May 12, 2020.

The petition also calls for Councillors to complete training on topics related to diversity, inclusion, and human rights, with a focus on LGBTQ2S issues.

Borderland Pride also wants to see Emo council adopt the resolution, as drafted and submitted by Borderland Pride for the May 12, 2020 meeting of council.

Our newsroom has reached out to Emo Mayor Harold McQuaker for comment.
