Paramedics Threatened With Knife: Union

A union spokesperson wants local paramedics protected from the dangers of the job.

Rob Moquin’s call for equipment like stab-resistant vests comes after a man allegedly threatened paramedics with a knife when they responded to a 911 call.

“We’re hearing daily that [paramedics] are encountering some threat of violence, whether it be physical [or] mental,”

Moquin says first responders were able to call for backup in this incident, and nobody was hurt.

Moquin notes that when paramedics are sent out to respond to a 911 call, they don’t always know whether the situation is violent or dangerous before they arrive.

He points out that paramedics have repeatedly called for more protective equipment, and says this latest incident highlights the violence they often face on the job. (File Photo)
