Outdoor Rinks Will Be Open This Winter

Outdoor skating rinks in the city will be staying open this winter.

The city’s Manager of Parks and Open Spaces Cory Halvorsen indicates there will be COVID-19 precautions at each rink location.

Halvorsen told city councillors earlier this week, “Our reopening plan addresses COVID-19 requirements with respect to the operation of the ice surfaces themselves as well as the heated change facilities.”

The city official adds it’s anticipated there will be more people using the outdoor rinks this season.

“We do anticipate that user levels will likely increase this winter due to COVID-19 impacts. We saw that in a variety of our park operations this summer that were able to stay open,” noted Halvorson.
