Just in time for the holidays, the city’s boarded outdoor skating rinks will be open starting on Friday. You can grab your skates and visit the freshly made ice rinks.
Over the last several week’s crews have been out flooding rinks and with the recent cold snap, ice conditions are now ready to go. Manager of Parks & Open Spaces, Cory Halvorsen says the opening is just a few days earlier than previous years thanks to the cold. “The consistent below zero definitely helped.”
The city operates a total of 38 outdoor skating rinks. Supervised locations have standard operating hours of 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.
Each rink has different days of operations. Residents are encouraged to check the city’s WEBSITE.
The following sites will be open/supervised from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day:
· Carrick Park
· North End Community Centre
· West Thunder Community Centre
· James Street Playfield
Unsupervised sites can be used at the skater’s discretion.
