Several police officers, emergency officials and citizens are being honoured by the Ontario Provincial Police.
The force’s annual award ceremony was held last night with tales of bravery being shared.
The Kenora area Pellatt Fire Department was honoured for rescuing a husband and wife who had gone through the ice on Sandy Lake in Kenora.
Meanwhile, a First Nations Constable received the Commissioners Letter and St. John Ambulance award for performing CPR on a suicide victim.
The victim was revived and sent to a hospital in Winnipeg.
Finally, two civilians received a Commissioner’s Citation for Lifesaving.
They came to the rescue of an overdue motorist who rolled his vehicle in a snowstorm and was trapped inside with no heat for over 16 hours.
Officials say their action that night saved a life.
