For months now, Finance Minister Vic Fedeli and Ontario’s Conservatives have said the provincial deficit is a staggering $15-billion.
But now, that number is under scrutiny by Ontario’s Financial Accountability Officer, Peter Weltman.
He says the deficit is actually closer to $12.3-billion and if there isn’t serious policy changes, the deficit will continue to climb at alarming rates.
The news comes about a week after it was revealed Ontario’s previous chief accountant resigned because she wouldn’t sign off on the PC’s deficit projections.
