The provincial government is giving back to truck drivers, grocery store employees and pharmacy employees by encouraging their employers to give them Good Friday and Easter Sunday off.
Premier Doug Ford says those people who keep the lights on and our essential items available have been working around the clock during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The truth is everyone has been working day and night for weeks to keep the food and medicine on the shelves. We are saying thank you by ensuring they have this Friday and Sunday off. They deserve some quality time with their family. We need to give them a break,” Ford said.
The provincial government is also covering a free coffee today to truckers at any en-route location.
Ford says essential stores will be open on Thursday but closed on Friday and Sunday.
Most stores locally in Thunder Bay observe stat holidays. In Ontario, Good Friday is a public holiday. Some employers provide Easter Monday as well.
