OHRC Calls For Police Changes

The Ontario Human Rights Commission is sending a stern letter to the Thunder Bay Police Service and its Services Board reguarding systemic discrimination and racism.

After meeting with the Police Chief and Deputy Chiefs last month, she is calling for immediate proactive action to help build public confidence and trust in the force.

Human Rights Commissioner Renu Mandhane wants the force to publicly commit to a coordinated, time-bound, and appropriately resourced human rights organization change project.

She feels that it would lead to diminished tensions between the Indigenous community and members of the service.
