Frances died peacefully on July 23, 2026 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, after a short illness, at the age 89.
Born and educated in Scotland, Frances emigrated with their two children to join her husband Ian in Canada in 1967. He had paved the way three months earlier, settling in what was then Fort William. She worked at Confederation College for many years, performing increasingly responsible tasks while earning a college Diploma in Accounting Management and later her Certified General Accountant designation. She retired as Budget Manager/Internal Auditor in 1996, leaving a small gap in the social activities of her female colleagues, her long-time annual “fun and frolic” pool parties retired with her!
Since they both loved to travel, Frances and Ian spent most of their post-retirement winters exploring the southern States, towing their 5th wheel and going wherever the spirit moved. Where they couldn’t drive, they flew or sailed – Bermuda, the Bahamas, Spain, France, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Jordan and, of course, the UK and its islands. An avid reader, Frances had several other hobbies over the years including baking, sewing, hand and machine knitting, photography, poetry, Sudoku and other puzzles, and making unique cards for her friends.
An only child, Frances was predeceased by Ian November 23, 2017, her cherished husband of 61 years, her beloved son John at 18, her parents and grandparents and her beloved daughter Shona who passed away unexpectedly in 2024, at the age of 64.
She is survived by her dear friends in Canada, the USA and the UK.
I (Ronni) would like to thank the staff on 6 South at Hogarth Riverview Manor for their professional care and compassion during her stay.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service. The ashes will be scattered privately at a later date. Should you wish to honour her memory and friendship, please think of Frances as you perform random acts of kindness, as she so often did throughout her long and worthwhile life.
