Janet Buckley

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Lorraine Buckley on July 6, 2026 at Roseview Manor at the age of 93.

Janet was predeceased by the love of her life and soulmate, and we can find comfort in knowing they are together once again. After living courageously with dementia, we also find peace in believing that her mind is clear, her memories restored and her spirit free.

Janet devoted many years to teaching in the public school systems. She paused her career to raise a family, returning to the classroom once her children were older. After retiring from teaching, Janet and her husband Jack enjoyed their retirement with trips, treasured friendships and countless summers at their beloved camp at Birch Beach.

Serving others was simply part of who mom was. She gave countless hours to organizations and causes including UNICEF, the Salvation Army and TeleCare. She devoted most of her life to the United Church. She served on many committees, was the secretary of Cambrian Presbytery, served as president of the Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario and attended General Council meetings. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She loved Trinity United Church, treasured her friendships she found there and found immense joy singing in the choir.

Janet was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, and the heart of our family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and, especially, her grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life. Becoming a grandmother was one of her life’s greatest blessings, and she treasured every hug, laugh, milestone, and moment shared with them.

Janet is survived by her sister in law Jean Meisenheimer, daughter Ruth (Shawn McDonald), sons John (Monica Strasser) and David (Gail Cameron). She is also survived by grandchildren Brittany (Kevin Golbeck), Jack and Laura Buckley and two great grandsons Austin and Brooks Golbeck. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father Erling Lund, mother Doris Lund, and stepmother Gladys Lund. Mom’s husband of 70 years, John (Jack) Buckley predeceased her in May of 2025. Also predeceased by her father in law R. Earl Buckley, her mother-in-law Hazel Buckley, her sisters-in-law Ruth Buckley and Grace Del Pino and brothers-in-law Bruce Buckley, Arnold Meisenheimer and Eugene Del Pino.

Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Roseview Manor staff for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion that you gave to our mom, during the last 20 months of her life.

The Celebration of Life for mom will be held for family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Trinity United Church or the Alzheimer Society Thunder Bay.
