September 25, 1947 – September 21, 2026
Our hearts are broken. It is with great sadness the family of Glen Olson announce his passing at the age of 78 on September 21, 2026, after a short stay in hospital.
Glen’s whole world revolved around his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He loved to spend time with family whenever possible at our camp at Marks Lake and during dinners which were very important to him. Glen was an avid outdoorsman and loved travelling, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling with family and friends.
His family always valued his advice and guidance and he believed there was a solution to every problem. He was known not to worry so much about the appearance of his fixes – just get it done and fix it. Glen really believed in teaching the younger generation the importance of learning life skills and spent every opportunity to share his knowledge. He was never bored and his sanctuary was his garage spending time on family member projects. He was never without “projects” to start or finish.
Glen was employed as a machine operator in the finishing room at Bowater Pulp & Paper Mill, retiring in 2003 after 38 years.
Glen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, Abu, godfather, uncle, and recently added the new title of great-grandfather. Glen married the love of his life, Ellen (Jorgensen), and they travelled extensively to Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Alberta, Quebec, Europe, Dominican Republic, Mexico and to several US States ending with many trips to Washington State to spend time with our grandchildren, Mateo & Vale. Glen was very proud and fortunate Keara and Jaxon were living close by.
The most special journey for Glen was with his son, Jason, to South Africa. It was a trip of a lifetime and he couldn’t stop wondering how a farm boy from NW Ontario was so fortunate to travel to such an amazing place to safari and tour Cape Town, Kruger National Park, Zimbabwe and returning home from Johannesburg. Together they created an incredible photo collection documenting their safaris and tours.
Glen is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Ellen (Jorgensen); son, Jason (Mariana); daughters, Leigh-Anna (Rick) and Krysta (Adam); grandchildren, Keara (Marty), Jaxon, Mateo, Valentina; great-granddaughter, Brynleigh, and godson Kenny (Tracy & Teagan). Glen enjoyed a very special bond with Adam, Rick, Kenny and Mariana. He is also survived by many other in-laws, relatives, special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry & Annie Olson; mother and father-in-law, Ellen and Willie Jorgensen; sisters, Irene, Shirley & Sharon; brother Willie; his special lab bud, Tikka, and other family members.
Glen, in his own words, continuously told us all he “had lived a good life, that he was blessed with an awesome family and that he had no regrets”. One of his best expressions when going out was “we will leave at first light” finishing off with words from a song by Willie Nelson, “…… On the Road Again ……. “.
Cremation has taken place and at the wishes of his family, a Celebration of Life will be held in September 2027. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in honour of Glen’s memory to the Rural Cupboard Food Bank, the Underground Gym, the Ontario Federation of Angler’s & Hunters (OFHA) or a charity of their choice.
Condolences may be made through www.nwfainc.com
