David Melvin Carson

It is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to David on June 25, 2026 following a lengthy illness with COPD. David was born on July 13, 1948 to Melvin and Dema Carson. He was the oldest of seven children. David was raised in Fort William for the first eight years of his life. The family then moved to Rosslyn Road where he made many lifelong friends. He was always on the go and up for a good party in his younger years. David started his working career with the CNR. He then became a welder by trade and spent a lot of his working life at the Port Arthur Shipyards. He also worked as a welder in Alberta. David loved nothing more than being in the bush or on the lake. He loved to hunt and fish and used a crossbow for hunting. After his retirement, he enjoyed getting a Robin’s coffee and taking a long drive in the country or just sitting by the Kam River enjoying the calm and tranquility. David is survived by his son, Jaret Carson, his granddaughter Bethany Friesen and his great-granddaughter Myra Lynn Morris. He is also survived by his siblings, sisters Bev Zweep (Jim), Vickie Carson-Curtis (Richard), brothers Kevin and Craig, nieces and nephews Cara Pylvainen (Allan, Chris, Tamara, Erik, Alyssa), Jeff Zweep, Michael Carson, Clayton Carson (Natalie, Kyla, Chloe and Quinn), Devon Carson, Brendon Roy, Meghan Gaudette (Kaylee,
Breanna, Brinley), Kayla Curtis (Garrett, Brandon,Katilynn ), Mitchell Curtis (Valeria), Cassandra Curtis (Bryce, Grace, Anna), Nathan Carson, Ciaran Carson. He was predeceased by his son Tad Carson, Mom and Dad Dema and Melvin Carson, brothers Gary and Donald, niece Jennifer Carson, sister-in-law Julie Halstead. David has been cremated and there will be no funeral service at his request. His ashes will be scattered alongside his son Tad at a later date. David amazed us with the grace he showed in handling his illness. He always had a kind word to say about his caregivers and thanked everyone for anything they did for him. The family would like to thank the staff at P.R. Cook for making David’s last years so comfortable. We would also like to thank Dr. Migay, Dr. Texeira, the Palliative care team and the wonderful staff at Hospice. A special thank you to David’s nurse practitioner of many years, Carolan Thayer for her excellent care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay. Rest easy, David. Until we meet again.
