OBA presents President’s awards to Justice Centers

The Ontario Bar Association has given the province’s Justice Centers an award for their innovative work.

It says the President’s award recognizes what justice can look like in the justice centers.

Katy Commisso from Thunder Bay is president of the bar association and made a presentation at the Kenora Justice Center Tuesday morning.

“Being here and truly understanding the impact it’s had on the community, it’s a real privilege for me, and it’s a real honour to recognize the work that’s being done here by the community and all of the various stakeholders in the Justice Center,” says Commisso.

Commisso says the Justice Centers not only do the work of the court system, but it also provides wrap around social services in one location.

“The wrap-around services that are provided to people that come into contact with the Criminal Justice Center and the wholistic look at the root of where the offenses come from and providing the services at the same time as the criminal justice process is happening is where I think that the impact is being made.”

Commisso was in Kenora on Tuesday to make the award presentation but will be in other locations that have justice centers, like London and Toronto later on.
