NWO Residents Honoured

Three northwestern Ontario residents are getting decorations for bravery from Canada’s Governor General.

The Governor General’s office is releasing details on what the men did to receive the honour.

In the summer of 2012, Kyle Griffiths braved intense heat and smoke to pull an unconscious man from a burning vehicle in Emo.

The car had been hit by a train at a railway crossing and was pushed down the track before it caught fire.

Griffiths ran to the vehicle and was able to pull the unresponsive driver to safety, sadly the victim didn’t survive.

Meanwhile, in the fall of 2012 Dryden’s Jeremy Olson and his father Sigurd rescued their 85 year old neighbour who had fallen through the ice on Wabigoon.

They pushed a canoe to the scene and got the victim to climb into it.

All three made it to land safely.
