No Booster Shot Needed Against COVID-19: DeMille

Two doses of COVID-19 are all that’s needed right now.

With both Moderna and Pfizer continuing to develop and test booster shots, Thunder Bay’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille says just stick with the first and second shot.

“Some other jurisdictions are considering or using booster doses for certain populations, in particular people that might have a lower immune response to the vaccine,” DeMille added. “I’m not recommending at this time that anybody be seeking a booster dose of the vaccine.”

There are calls from the World Health Organization to get the entire planet vaccinated before worrying about third doses.

Booster shots are commonly used to increase the body’s antibody response to a virus after the immune system has been primed by the initial vaccination.
