Nibinamik Wants Inquiry Into Viral Video

Nibinamik First Nation wants an independent inquiry and investigation into Thunder Bay Police’s actions in a recent viral video.

The video shows an officer allegedly slap a 17 year old girl on a gurney.

Chief Johnny Yellowhead says the actions of the officer in the video has added to the long and sorry history of racist actions by members of police against Indigenous people.

Yellowhead says they’ll be writing the police, and the Ontario Government asking them to address the matter in a transparent manner.

He adds if police don’t take the necessary steps to protect Indigenous youth safe, they’ll be looking for help from the provincial and federal governments to protect their children.
