A new wastewater treatment plant is to be built in Red Rock.
The provincial and federal governments are teaming up to invest the money, with 18-million coming from Ontario, and over 8.5-million from Ottawa.
Infrastructure Minister Monte McNaughton notes it’ll protect the natural environment, while driving economic development in northern Ontario.
Red Rock’s mayor, Gary Nelson, points out it’ll ensure the community complies with provincial and federal water quality regulations that come into effect in 2030.
Andrea Khanjin is the Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Environment minister, Rod Phillips, and tells us after nine years of planning, the work is definitely due.
“The current state it was in, meant there was only two more years of its lifetime, the folks that were working inside that plant were keeping it together by elastic bands, pretty much.”
Labour minister Patty Hajdu was also there, saying this will provide reliable wastewater services for years.
