A new fire truck for the Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue service is up for expected approval on Monday night at city hall.
Acting Fire Chief Greg Hankkio indicates they are asking council to approve the expenditure of money which has already been approved in the budget for the purchase of the pumper.
“We have a 2005 (truck) that is serving as a front line response pumper. Once the new truck arrives approximately a year from now…the 2005 (truck) will be relegated to a reserve capacity,” explains Hankkio.
The acting fire chief says the purchase is required in order to keep up with the replacement cycle they have in place along with keeping up with the National Fire Protection Association standard for replacing old fire trucks.
