New City Bus Artwork Is Simply Stunning

Have you seen the newly designed buses around town?

They are hard to miss with their beautiful artwork from five local Indigenous youth artists.

The Maamawe Art Bus project was guided by the City of Thunder Bay’s Anishinaabe Elders Council, in partnership with the Youth Inclusion Program, Cultural Development & Public Art Committee, and Indigenous Relations Office.

Shelby Gagnon and Morningstar Derosier were the lead artists on the projects and had the help of five other talented individuals; Jacenia Desmoulin, Eva McKenzie, Lak Williams, Sage Laliberte and Athena Hudson.

A statement from the City of Thunder Bay reads

The bus is intended to highlight Indigenous connection to the land and the years of contributions of First Peoples, as well as represent the healing process of our community from a different perspective.

They will be used on regular routes across the city.
