National Volunteer Week: THANK YOU!

This is an important week on the calendar.  It’s National Volunteer Week.  Did you know that over 20 million Canadians volunteer in some type of capacity every year?  Thousands alone – here in Thunder Bay too.

It’s easy to forget just how much good happens quietly—at food banks, in classrooms, on the sidelines of youth sports, and at shelters, or – wherever. None of it works without people who decide, “Yeah, I can help with that.”

Volunteering isn’t just about giving time. It’s about connection. It’s about that feeling you get when you see someone smile because of something you did. It’s about finding new skills, meeting new people, and realizing that you’re part of something bigger than yourself.

And here’s the best part: you don’t need a special talent or a ton of free time. Every hour, every small act, every helping hand adds up to something powerful.

So this week, if you’ve ever thought about volunteering—even for a moment—maybe this is your sign. Your community needs you. And who knows… you might just find that you needed it too.

Happy National Volunteer Week. Let’s celebrate the people who make our community stronger, kinder, and a little more hopeful every day – and that might very well – be YOU.  Good job.
