Murder Suspect Surrenders Following Standoff

Thunder Bay police say murder suspect Charles Norman Casmey has surrendered peacefully.

It followed a standoff tonight on the 500 block of McTavish Street which police say lasted about two hours, ending shortly after 9 pm.

The 31 year old Casmey had been wanted on a Canada wide warrant in connection with the death this week of a 63 year old man on McLaughlin Street as well as the assault on a 25 year old woman.

During the standoff, residents in the immediate area were evacuated from their homes while police spoke to Casmey on a bullhorn urging him to give himself up.

Police Incident concludes

Charles CASMEY surrendered to police at 9:25 p.m. He exited a residence on the 500 block of McTavish Street as a result of a police operation involving the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police.
Residence who have been evacuated will be allowed back in their homes. More information will be released when available.
