Modified Stage Two For York Region

A decision that stresses out Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

With five straight days of over 700 COVID-19 cases in the province, Ford unveiled York Region will see a closure of indoor dining, gyms, and other establishments starting Monday at 12:01 a.m. as part of a modified Stage 2.

“I’m not the health expert! But when I have the [doctors] coming up to me and saying ‘this the reason, and based on the data this is where things are going. Additionally I have the [Ontario Hospital Association] telling me that they’re maxing out at the hospital capacity if this trend continues” says Premier Ford. “I ask the people for their patience. I also ask the people, no matter what all three levels of government do, we need the people.”

The stage will last 28 days and follows a similar move for Toronto, Ottawa and Peel Region last week.

Locally the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports 109 cases with just one active.

The Northwestern Health Unit has three active cases and 71 total.
