Minister Promises Action On Water Crisis

The federal government says it is prepared to help out the remote James Bay community of Attawapiskat to address the contaminated water supply.

Indigenous Relations Minister Seamus O’Regan met with the members and has come up with some short term solutions.

He explains there is already $1.5 million set aside for water system improvements and the equipment is on-site ready to install

The federal Indigenous relations minister adds health and technical staff are arriving this week to help as well.

The chief of the First Nation community declared a state of emergency earlier this month because chemicals were found in the tap water.
