Mediation Offered To Break Impasse

Another option to resolve tough contract discussions has been offered to unions representing Ontario teachers from the provincial government.

This morning Education Minister Stephen Lecce said the government would like to enter into mediation, which uses a third party, with the unions.

In a statement, he added the government has been a reasonable force at the bargaining table, while unions continue to take escalating steps toward strike action.

He repeated his desire to keep students in class, avoiding school closures and disruptions.
