Minimum Wage Bump Hits City Coffers

The increase in minimum wage is having an impact on the City’s finances.

City Manager Norm Gale tells us although they don’t have a lot of minimum wage employees, they do have a number that are just above that pay rate who’s salary has to be adjusted to reflect the increase to $14.00 an hour.

He indicates other factors include equal pay for equal work, and benefits like increased vacations.

Gale notes they are now on the hook for an extra $500,000 because of the changes in the province’s employment legislation.
