City Asked To Be In Compliance With Ontario Regulations

While city councillors ponder whether to ban hockey nets in outdoor skating rinks, the region’s top doctor already has her answer.

Medical officer Dr, Janet DeMille believes that during a pandemic government health rules should be followed by The City of Thunder Bay.

“The city needs to implement the measures to really do its due diligence in preventing hockey games from being played,” says DeMille. “I think the issue of whether nets should be there or not needs to be considered in that context.”

Mayor Bill Mauro disagreed with the city directive and tried to get it reversed at last Monday’s council meeting.

Following a lengthy debate, they decided to postpone any decision until February 8th.
