Student Vaccines Won’t Be Mandatory

It’s still not known when kids will return to the classroom, but when they do, the provincial government has no plans to make COVID vaccines compulsory for students.

Health Minister Christine Elliott responded to the question earlier this week.

“Not at this moment, no,” she said. “It has been a matter of choice if people wish to receive a vaccine. As you know, many young people will require parental consent to have a vaccine or not.”

Elliott said it’s always been a matter of choice to get immunized, adding parents won’t be forced to get their children vaccinated.

“We encourage people very strongly to receive the vaccine as soon as it’s their time to protect themselves and their loved ones,” she notes.
