Man Retrieved From Ice Off Marina Park

Update 12noon:

A number of emergency vehicles could be seen at Marina Park after a man walked onto the ice.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue tells us it was around 6 o’clock Sunday evening when they got a call about a man who had ventured onto the ice near the Bite Restaurant. Emergency crews quickly got to the man about 500 yards from shore, and brought him back safely. There were no injuries, and no word on why the man walked out.

Elsewhere, provincial police say a man fell off his snowmobile early Sunday afternoon, while on the trails not far from Highway 527 and Eagle Head Road. They say he suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Also, a single vehicle rollover on the TransCanada, just east of Silver Lake Road, happened Sunday night. No word on injuries, and the scene was cleared early Monday morning.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
