Thunder Bay’s Health Unit is warning residents blue-green algae has been found in Hawkeye Lake.
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is investigating whether the algae identified is a toxin-producing strain.
When blue-green algae is present in water, officials say to avoid drinking the water, using it for household purposes, or swimming in it.
Officials note there have been incidents in other jurisdictions where pets have died after drinking the contaminated water.
