Lakehead University is anticipating the return to in-person athletics next week.
Ontario University Athletics unveiled on January 24th that as part of the province’s re-opening plan, training for athletes can begin on Monday, January 31st which also means campus facilities can be available to the general public.
Athletics Director Tom Warden said they need to follow COVID-19 rules as laid out by the University, the Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
Warden also mentioned there’s a chance that post-poned competition could be back on the schedule.
“Potentially, if there is the ability to move the National and Provincial Championships back, we would use those weeks to backfill and reschedule games, as many as possible,” Warden said.
The OUA is hammering out the competitive schedule, which is scheduled to pick up the week of February 9th.
University athletics paused competition on December 17th and were unable to continue their season after the province implemented a return to a modified version of the Roadmap to Reopen on January 5th.
