Stargazers might be able to see something special over the next few weeks. Comet Neowise has been making its way through our solar system, becoming more-and-more visible in the early morning sky, and it’s set to start an evening show soon.
The brightest comet since Hale-Bopp in 1997, you can see Neowise with the naked eye but a pair of binoculars or a telescope will really amp things up. Experts say that the best chance at seeing it is during the evening between July 14th – July 19th. About an hour after sunset, it will look like it’s zipping across the sky under the Big Dipper. It should be streaking over the northwest horizon, a little below the bowl of the Big Dip. Obviously weather conditions can hamper your efforts to spot Neowise.
So now’s your chance to look up and make a wish because, if you miss it, you will be waiting a while for the next go-round. Neowise won’t be back for around 6,800 years!
