Local Nurses Lowest Paid: ONA

Disappointment from the President of the Ontario Nurses Association that 58 nurses at the district health unit are walking the picket line, after last ditch negotiations with management failed.

Vicki McKenna claims these nurses are among the lowest paid in the province.

“They’ve been there for a while, and it’s not a happy place to be. But the biggest issue is they do exactly the same type of work as any other health unit.”

The President adds she’s heard contract discussions may continue today, but couldn’t confirm that.

She notes even nurses at the Regional hospital are on par with other hospitals in Ontario.

“Quite simply we believe that’s what it should be. It just doesn’t make any sense that people doing the same work are paid differently.”

McKenna asserts some nurses in Thunder Bay are the lowest paid in Ontario.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
