Yuk-Sem Won is prepared to run again for the NDP two years after the last federal election.
Won, who ran for the first time for federal office, finished just 2,554 votes shy of fellow rookie Marcus Powlowski for the Liberals in the October 2019 vote.
Talking with Acadia News, Won feels should the Liberals call an election it would be nothing more than a power grab.
“I haven’t talked to one individual in the riding who has said that we need an election,” Won said. “What we need is recovery, time to heal, and time to be with our friends and family and to make sure that everyone is safe. We don’t need to be going to polls to fight about who has more power.”

Running a second time will present challenges in terms of the pandemic and potential timeline for the election, but in terms of the issues on voters minds Won doesn’t feel those have changed.
“The Liberals campaigned on issues like pharma care, childcare, reconciliation, fresh water for Canadians,” suggested Won. “Two years later, yes there was a pandemic, but all of those issues are still relevant because they haven’t been solved.”
