Michael Gravelle and Judith Monteith-Farrell say it’s a long time coming, but they’re happy to see Ontario sign on the dotted line with Ottawa.
The members of provincial parliament feel the $13.2 billion deal will help families, even though the federal benchmark of $10 a day won’t be reached until September 2025.
“Quite frankly, I do think that this could’ve been signed much earlier. (Our party) has been pushing for months for the government to sign the deal,” said Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP Gravelle.
Gravelle did stress to Acadia News that this deal will be beneficial to working women in particular.
“Any break on child care will assist parents,” added Thunder Bay-Atikokan member Farrell. “We kept asking and asking what’s the hold up (to sign the agreement) and the answer we kept getting was we’re hoping for a better deal for Ontario.”
Ontario is the last jurisdiction to sign the national deal.
