Local Baseball Games Making A Return

It’s time to play ball in Thunder Bay!

Thanks to Ontario moving into Step 2 of their Roadmap to Reopen on June 30, The Thunder Bay Lakers along with the Port Arthur Nationals and Westfort International Little League can all play games starting July 5.

Lakers U-13 Manager Kevin McCallum says his team has been out practicing a few times a week, which led to a memorable story from the first get together.

“You know these kids hadn’t seen each other in so long, you would’ve thought it was a seniors coffee club,” remarked McCallum. “They were all huddled around, having fun, chatting… it’s great to see them become kids again and see their friends.”

When discussing a schedule for this week, McCallum added: “Lakers will alternate playing against Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) teams. Then on certain nights our team will get back together and play potentially the team that they are on or older teams just to give these kids some sort of a schedule for this year.”

The Men’s League Senior Team is set to hold tryouts on July 8 at Central Ball Park Upper Field.

Officials with the Westfort Internationals Little League say that T-Ball and Coach Pitch games will begin on July 6 with Minor and Major games getting going on July 19.
